I have been a governor at Bramble since my son was four years old and he is now 27. I hail from North London and have lived in a number of different places but settled here in Portsmouth 29 years ago. I was made redundant five years ago but, as I was near retirement age, decided to try doing something I love so I have ventured into writing, mostly children’s stories
Having worked in infant schools for the past 17 years, I have a passion for this stage of education and believe that getting the foundations for learning right early on in a child’s life means they will have the tools they need to continue to be successful. I have been a leader in schools across Hampshire and joined Bramble Infant School and Nursery as Headteacher in 2018.
As Headteacher I plan and deliver the long-term strategic vision for the school and nursery in conjunction with the governing body, as well as taking responsibility for all day to day operations. Every child has the right to be safe, learn and become successful and I am completely committed to achieving this.
I was born in Bristol and moved to Portsmouth in 1996. Both of my children, now adults, had a wonderful experience at Bramble and I want to repay this debt. I firmly believe that every child has a right to the best possible education so that they can thrive in the ever-changing world we live in. My interest in inclusion is 2-fold: 1) I live with a hidden disability which also impacts my mobility 2) My son has Special Educational Needs, so I have first-hand parental experience of the system from Nursery School through to 6th form and I can use this help support the School and Nursery thrive.
I grew up in Portsmouth and settled in Southsea in 2014 after spending time away at university and then living and working in London for a decade. Our daughter currently attends Brambles and she loves it and has made so much progress. Being a primary school teacher myself, I am keen to support the school as much as I can so I was pleased to become a parent governor in 2022. I am passionate about education and believe that positive experiences in early years are vital to laying the foundations for success in education and in life.
I work for Portsmouth City Council as a Children’s Social Worker, and have previously been a teacher in a primary school in Portsmouth. I have a passion for ensuring that children achieve the very best they can, and I see my role as Governor as one to challenge and support the school on its journey. My son attended Bramble Infant School and loved school - I hope to help the school so that every child has the same positive experience.
I started as a governor in 2005 when my oldest child was in Yr R. My other children also attended Bramble Infant school (or Goldsmith Infant as it used to be called then). They all loved the school! I am originally from Switzerland but have lived in Southsea since 1995 & enjoy living by the sea. I work for the Ethnic Minority Achievement Service which is part of the Education department at Portsmouth City Council. I am passionate about all children's education but I have a particular interest in the provision for children whose first language isn't English.
I've been a governor at Bramble since my daughter was at the nursery school more than 10 years ago. Both her and her older brother went to school at Bramble (then Goldsmith Infants) and both loved their time there. I work at Portsmouth City Council in finance so when I heard that Bramble were looking for governors with a finance background it felt like an opportunity to be involved in a school we all loved whilst sharing my expertise. I know that Bramble was instrumental in giving my children a love of learning and the right support to enable them both to flourish despite their different characters and I really wanted to be part of ensuring the future children of Bramble had the same great start to their educational journey. I never imagined I'd be here as a governor so long, but the Bramble community is hard to leave behind.
I was born in Portsmouth and have lived in the city all my life. I work for a neighbouring local authority as the lead for litigation and insurance. I have previously been a governor of Goldsmith Infant School for some 8 years, joining when my daughter was 6 (now 18!). Having taken a few years break as a governor I am pleased to join the governors of Bramble. I am a firm believer that all children should have the benefit of an enjoyable and supportive learning experience.
Growing up in Portsmouth I have been through the education system here and have always had an extremely positive learning experience and believe this is something that every child should receive.
Having volunteered in local schools and spent time working within them through a number of previous job roles I have always loved the positivity of children and their enthusiasm to learn. With nearly twenty year's experience of working in the public sector I am now looking to play a small part in giving back to my local community and in particular this wonderful little school. I have a daughter in year one currently and a son who will likely attend in a few years' time therefore I have a real vested interest in Bramble Nursery and Infant School being the best that it can be.
